Frequently Asked Questions

Work Permits

How many times do I need to advertise a position in the named newspapers in order to satisfy Barbados work permit rules?

Advertisements for prospective employees are to be placed in both newspapers, twice a week, for two weeks. If no suitable candidates are identified, the employer will place an Objection Notice in the same papers, twice a week for two weeks.

The purpose of the Objection Notice is to alert everyone that you, the employer, intend to request the Chief Immigration Officer for a derogation for a non-national to fill the advertised post. Members of the public in Barbados are free to write to the Chief Immigration Officer if they feel they possess the required skills and were overlooked in the selection of candidates for the advertised position.
