Student Visas
What is the difference between holding a Student Visa and being a student who is entitled to "register" as a student in Barbados?
Non-CARICOM students require a Student Visa to study in Barbados if they do not hold any of the following status in Barbados: Citizenship, Permanent Residence, Immigrant Status, Permission to Reside and Work, CARICOM Skilled National Status or the Right of Establishment.
CARICOM students under the age of sixteen (16) years do not require a Student Visa to attend school in Barbados. Instead, they apply to be "registered" in Barbados. Such students submit documents to the Immigration Department to be registered to attend a particular school. This is known as Student Registration, and the student is known as a Registered Student. Unlike applicants for Student Visas, Registered Students do not submit a "Student Visa" application, nor pay an application fee. The application for Student Registration must, however, be accompanied by all other documents normally required to support a student visa application.
Those documents are:
- Student Visa Application Forms H-1 and H-2
- Two passport sized photos (5cm x 5cm against a white background)
- Application fee BDS $300.00 (Student Visa applicants only)
- Original and photocopy of applicant's Birth Certificate
- Applicant's original passport along with a photocopy of the passport biodata page
- If the applicant is a child (i.e., under 18 years of age), the original passport of the child applicant AND a copy of the child applicant's passport biodata page AND a copy of the passport biodata page of a parent or guardian
- Letter of acceptance from the school the child intends to attend
- Evidence of financial support (for adults)
- Court document giving guardianship (if an application is submitted by a guardian)
